 Whitecourt is located in the west-central region of the Province of Alberta some 177 kms. northwest of Edmonton.
Located in a thriving resource area, Whitecourt has grown to almost 10,000 people,
but serves a trading area of 50,000, most of which work in the energy or forestry fields.
It is a young town with the average age of around 30, but the average household income is some 20% higher
than the Alberta provincial average.
The local economy has been, and will continue to be, driven driven by the
forestry and oil / gas industries for a good many years to come.
Just recently the
$1.5 Billion Swan Hills Synfuels Project
was announced by the Alberta Government. This project will manufacture clean synthetic gas from
deep coal deposits to fuel a new 300 Megawatt Power Plant to be built at Whitecourt. This transformative project
is a whole new way to generate clean electricity, using Alberta's vast, deep stranded coal reserves.
Whitecourt will have the Province's first clean power source!
